The Fredericksburg Area Museum (FAM) on Saturday will open a new exhibition featuring the City of Fredericksburg’s “Auction Block,” which was removed from the corner of William and Charles streets in the summer of 2020.

The FAM exhibition, called “A Monumental Weight: The ‘Auction Block’ in Fredericksburg, Virginia,” will open Saturday from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Recognizing the immense historical and emotional significance of this complex object, the FAM has worked with members of the community to create this exhibit. Attendees of the Saturday event will hear remarks from community members and museum staff and receive the opportunity to view and learn more about the development of the updated exhibition. The opening will be free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.

Support for “A Monumental Weight: The ‘Auction Block’ in Fredericksburg, Virginia” has been generously provided by the City of Fredericksburg as a component of City Council’s effort to tell a more complete Fredericksburg story. Additionally, support has been provided by the Virginia Humanities SHARP Grant and Virginia Humanities.

More information about the exhibition is available on the FAM website here.

FAM is located at 907 Princess Anne Street in downtown Fredericksburg.
