Local Entrepreneurs Open The Port

What inspires the owners of one of the newest restaurants in the region?  The Rappahannock River!  The Port Oysteria and Brewery now known for the wonderful seafood it produces – and is a reminder of the robust commerce, when Fredericksburg was one of the busiest ports in the country.

“We are drawing inspiration from the region and its rich fishing heritage, we will experiment with unique dishes, several infused with our Master Brewer’s artisanal craft beers,” said Joel Griffin, one of the owner/entrepreneurs.

“The collaboration of local distilleries and The Port’s own brewery – yielding ten beer types – will provide remarkable creations, like beer-battered fish and chips and bourbon-glazed salmon. We will focus on sustainable ingredients, fostering a locally grown ‘scratch kitchen’ philosophy,” continued Griffin.

Since the announcement of the plans for The Port, mouths have been watering with anticipation around the region.  The modern raw bar and brewery located at 106 George Street, is now open seven days a week for lunch and dinner service

Sunday – Thursday 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM

Friday & Saturday 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM

Other local entrepreneurs who join Griffin in this culinary adventure include Kevin Harkins, Carrick Longley, Kevin Dillard, and Dan Singh who saw potential in this well-located building in the heart of the historic district.

Keeping it local is a theme throughout with the engagement of local craftsmen, artists, and small business owners participating in the remarkable renovation.  Other locals will collaborate with The Port by providing key ingredients for recipe creation.  “We are striving to foster a sense of community ownership,” Griffin added.
