RaceRaves polled its runners on the best half marathons in every U.S. state, and Fredericksburg’s rose to the top in Virginia.
Here is what the website has to say about Fredericksburg’s race.
The self-proclaimed “Greatest Half in History” starts with a blast from a Howitzer and ends with a finisher medal from a Marine. Race day takes place in the city of Fredericksburg, home to four Civil War battlefields and Fredericksburg National Cemetery, the final resting place for 15,000+ Union soldiers. The rolling course showcases the host city’s quaint downtown and charming residential neighborhoods, highlighted by the emotional wear blue Mile in mile 9 and the charge up (in)famous Hospital Hill in mile 11. Along the way you’ll enjoy support and encouragement from enthusiastic Marines who line the streets, cheering every runner and even escorting the last participant across the finish line. Oorah!
We are looking forward to another great event! Come out and cheer on the runners!
