City, EDA approve LOI for revamped Liberty Place project
The Letter of Intent is expected to help kick off a two-block redevelopment project along William Street in downtown Fredericksburg.

Local cyber-security program receives GO Virginia funding
Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam announced this week that a local cyber-security preparatory program has received a $110,000 GO Virginia grant. In partnership with Germanna Community College and Rappahannock Community College, the University of Mary Washington will implement a 40-hour certification program to train Certified Information Systems Security Professionals (CISSP). The Fredericksburg EDA will provide a portion of the required local match for this important workforce development initiative.

Fredericksburg Food Co-op honored
In its quest to build membership and raise funds to get a grocery store going, the Fredericksburg Co-op has garnered national attention. It recently received the Best of the Best award at the Up & Coming Startup Food Co-op Conference in Milwaukee. The local group, which recently surpassed 1,000 members, hopes to find a roughly 10,000-square-foot space -- perhaps in one of
Fredericksburg's Opportunity Zones -- and open late this year.

New billboard promotes stadium
The Potomac Nationals, Silver Companies and City of Fredericksburg have teamed up on a new billboard that overlooks Interstate 95 southbound near the Rappahannock River and promotes the planned stadium.

Leases signed for Fredericksburg space
Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer reports the following commercial leases were signed in February for space in Fredericksburg:
- ThriveWorks, 4,100 square feet of office space at 417 Wolfe Street.
- Gibson Benefits Group, 1,649 square feet of office space in Snowden Office Park at 603 Jefferson Davis Highway.

Consultant makes recommendations for downtown
Downtown Fredericksburg could one day include beacons to help connect the city visually to the Rappahannock River. That's one of the suggestions that Streetsense, a Washington design and strategy firm hired by the city, has come up with to leverage the assets of the greater downtown.

City Council on Tuesday voted to extend by one year the Memorandum of Understanding governing the Fredericksburg Regional Tourism Partnership.

EDA invests in public-art program
The Fredericksburg EDA on Monday approved an $8,800 grant to help cover the costs of bringing six new public art sculptures to the City this fall. The sculptures will take the place of the ones currently up around town. The EDA and Arts Commission are working together on the program.

EDA sponsors UMW/Germanna event
The EDA also agreed to become a $2,000 sponsor of the Eagle Innovation event April 20. The one-day business pitch competition is open to all UMW and Germanna students.

New bicycle shop coming to Central Park
Trek Bicycles will occupy a 3,783-square-foot retail space at 1627 Carl D. Silver Parkway (the Total Wine building), according to a news release from Coldwell Banker Commercial Elite.

Summer Camp registration opening soon
Fredericksburg Parks, Recreation & Events' Summer Camp registration opens next week. City residents and City employees may begin registering at 6 p.m. Monday at the Dorothy Hart Community Center. Camp registration opens for everyone at 9 a.m. Tuesday in person at the DHCC and online.
