Slip ramp to Central Park opens today 

VDOT this morning opened the separate, free-flow lane from the Interstate 95 southbound exit ramp to Carl D. Silver Parkway. The slip ramp is part of a $21 million project to improve safety and enhance operations at Exit 130. The new lane will allow I-95 southbound traffic to directly exit the interstate and enter the Central Park shopping area without merging with traffic on Route 3 westbound.
New video series profiles 'Wonders of Wolfe Street'

This week is part one of a series profiling the eclectic mix of businesses along the Wolfe Street corridor. This episode features the Wm. Mason II Violin Shop.

Soccer tournament returning to region

More than 15,000 participants and family members are expected to be in the region June 28-July 3 for the 2018 U.S. Youth Soccer Region Championships. The event will be at Embrey Mill in Stafford and the VYSA Soccer Fields in Spotsylvania, but many attendees will be staying in and visiting Fredericksburg. The event was held in the region last year as well, and large crowds were reported at area restaurants and stores.

Eagle Scout project leads to upgrade at Dixon Park

A rising junior at James Monroe High School helped create a new fitness course at Dixon Park. 

Council working toward changes to parking near UMW

The changes involve establishing resident-permit parking zones in both the College Heights and College Terrace neighborhoods near UMW and removing the "No UMW Student Parking" signs there, as well as establishing two-hour parking on the campus side of certain blocks of College Avenue. Two ordinances dealing with these issues were on the City Council agenda Tuesday.
