As last-minute vacations are planned out of our city we want to remind you that there is plenty to do right here in FXBG. Stay-cations are easier this time of year with school beginning for families so take advantage of all there is to do and see. Don't miss out on the music in this edition: Sounds of Summer, Music on the Steps, Celebrate Virginia After Hours, Music by Moonlight and Picnic in the Park. Take part in a dash, fundraiser, walk or vigil on our path and trails or in our parks.

WTTG Fox 5 Zip Trip is coming to Fredericksburg TOMORROW!
Come on out and be part of the excitement and festivities beginning at 6 a.m. Yes, we said, 6 a.m.! Our very own city staff, led by Danelle Rose and Kim Herbert have worked together with the crew and producers of WTTG Fox 5 for weeks to put together unique experiences in our city for the nation to view. We can't wait to see you there bright and early!

Making connections at Connect
Victoria Matthews, Tourism Sales Manager for the City of Fredericksburg is participating in Connect in New Orleans representing the Fredericksburg Regional Tourism Partnership comprised of Fredericksburg, Stafford and Spotsylvania. Connect brings meeting planners and destinations together to book meetings and conventions. Victoria will have 34 appointments over the course of two days. The Fredericksburg Regional Tourism Partnership has also partnered with the Virginia Tourism Corporation and several other Virginia destinations to host 224 planners at an evening event.

Hurkamp Park is where the LOVEworks can be found
For the past few years the Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) has been encouraging destinations around the Commonwealth to participate in their LOVEworks program to depict the many reasons to LOVE a Virginia vacation. Local artist Emma Stoddard created the city's LOVEworks sign with a partial grant from the Economic Development Authority (EDA) and the Economic Development and Tourism Department. Ms. Stoddard's letters symbolize L - Arts, O - Downtown, V - Outdoors and E - Food/Beverage. The Parks, Recreation and Event staff prepared the mulch bed and the Public Works staff poured the concrete pad on which the sculpture is installed. The artwork will be complete within the next few weeks.

Antique shops are a modern-day museum selling history
Antiques have been said to hold stories of a family's history, and any retail antique shop almost acts as a museum to display and sell those pieces. Downtown Fredericksburg is known for its various antique wares and styles, ranging from books, clocks, furniture, toys, collectibles and many, many more.

UMW freshman move in
Yesterday was move-in day for University of Mary Washington freshmen. There are 970 freshmen in UMW's Class of 2021. Eighty-eight percent are from Virginia, and the rest are from 26 states, Washington and several foreign countries. We welcome the freshmen to Fredericksburg!

Willow opening soon at 315 William St.
Jenny DuPuy and Anna Mitsis, had a vision of assisting women with functional fashion, and Willow was fashioned into existence. Willow will also sell women's accessories and home goods. Preparation is in the works for Willow as you can see from our picture and we are excited for the merchandise and remodeled interior design to be unveiled.

Changes coming to City sign regulations
Fredericksburg City Council took the first vote this week to make changes to its sign ordinance. This includes changes to where in the City electronic variable messaging signs will be allowed.

Available spaces range from 1,000 s.f. to 6,126 s.f. in this mixed-use university center. Anchored by a Giant Food and Hyatt Place Hotel, which has 93 rooms, conference space and amenities. Retail and restaurant spaces with outdoor patios are available and a parking garage is on-site. The center has a connector drive to the Mary Washington Hospital campus. Eagle Village is adjacent to the University of Mary Washington and its 4,000 students and 1,000 employees, and Mary Washington Hospital with its 412 beds and 5,000 employees.
