An effort is under way to help communities that are scheduled to lose their HUBZone status as of January 1.  Legislation is pending in Congress that would allow communities in that situation to extend their eligibility by an additional four years.  Unless such legislation is passed, three of the City of Fredericksburg's six Census tracts will no longer be eligible for the the HUBZone Program.  (Although plenty of great office properties remain in the three Census tracts that will retain their HUBZone status).  For more information contact Angela Freeman.

The renovated Giant Food will remain in the Eagle Village mixed-use development along Jefferson Davis Highway.  This location is a main source of products for our citizens and the students who attend the University of Mary Washington.

Ratio Group is a great new business opening at 710 Kenmore Ave., Suite 240.  It is the first "techfusion center" to pick Fredericksburg as its home.  Ratio Group connects local businesses and Silicon Valley-based technology inventors with government contracts. 

Curitiba comes to Fredericksburg by way of Ana Robinson, who is from the capital and largest city of the Brazilian state of Paraná.  She and her husband, Frank Robinson, decided it was time for our city to behold Brazilian wood furniture and art.  While browsing through their retail items you can enjoy a cup of coffee or wine.  A performance space is also planned for the location.

Blake and Aby Bethem will sell Bistro Bethem, located at 309 William St., to Jacqueline Hartman. But you won't have to look too far for the Bethems -- they will continue to own and operate Vivify Burger and Lounge just across the street. Ms. Hartman plans on renovating and opening her restaurant for lunch and dinner. We will have to wait for the name and concept so stay tuned to Fred Focus.
