Work on Minor League Baseball stadium set to begin soon
 
The Potomac Nationals say the project in Celebrate Virginia South is on track for an April 2020 opening. Site work is scheduled to begin after July 4. A ribbon-cutting is scheduled for 2 p.m. July 5 at the team's new temporary store on the first floor of 601 Caroline St. (the Executive Plaza).

Freehling Finds celebrates 60th anniversary of Little Tire Co.

In this week's episode of "Freehling Finds," Bill talks with the Little family about the history of Little Tire Company, which has been doing business in the same location at 2415 Princess Anne St. since 1959.

Caroline Street welcomes "Opening Day" for Fredericksburg Baseball team store

Fredericksburg Baseball is excited to announce that it will open its downtown Fredericksburg team store on July 5th on the first floor of 601 Caroline St. (Executive Plaza) from 2-6 p.m. The store will have Fredericksburg Baseball merchandise for sale, which will include hats, t-shirts and more. Fans can also view seating maps and renderings of the stadium, and sit in sample stadium seats.

2019 Business Appreciation Winner

The Department of Economic Development & Tourism honored MANARC during Business Appreciation month. The 2019 theme is inspired by "Businesses who give Back!" MANARC, Borne the Battle, is a re-sale store operating on donations from the community with the express purpose of providing support to established veterans organizations. MANARC also partners with local businesses to raise funds for our veterans. Deborah Franks, Founder/CEO, is pictured with her dog Lily. We thank MANARC for its investment in our City and giving back to our community!

Fredericksburg Regional Community Leader Survey 2019

DMOproz has been retained by the City to research the thoughts, opinions and visions of community leaders in our region as it looks to the future of the visitor economy in and around Fredericksburg. Please complete the survey by July 7. All answers will be kept strictly confidential and reported back only in the aggregate.

Former EDA board members recognized by City Council

Joe Wilson, Bob Carter, Tom Crimmins and Hap Connors (not pictured) each received a proclamation from the Mayor and City Council on Tuesday thanking them for their service and contributions to the City by serving on the board of the Economic Development Authority.

Call for 2019 Christmas Parade Sponsorships

The Fredericksburg Parks, Recreation & Events Department is now accepting sponsorship proposals for the 2019 Christmas Parade. Please mail or submit proposals to Kim Herbert at 408 Canal Street, Fredericksburg, VA 22401 or by e-mail at [email protected]. Proposals will be considered as they are submitted. Sponsorships are available between $1,000 and $5,000.

City breweries named in blog

Breweries and brew pubs are draws to downtowns in smaller communities and are part of the economic vitality of the area. The three breweries in the City of Fredericksburg, Virginia, for example -- Strangeways Brewing, Red Dragon Brewery and Spencer Devon Brewing -- all host regular community events and provide significant tax revenue for the local government.

Central Rappahannock Regional Library reaches half-century mark

The opening of the Central Rappahannock Regional Library was on July 18, 1969. The regional library system that began in what is now CRRL's Fredericksburg branch at 1201 Caroline St. has grown to 10 locations serving 328,849 customers in Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania and Westmoreland. CRRL has many celebrations planned.

UMW expanding tennis center parking lot  

UMW plans to spend about $900,000 on the parking lot, which includes a $315,000 contribution from the city. Once completed, people will have an alternative to hunting for a place to park along Hanover Street near the Battleground Athletic Complex.

UMW names inaugural director of Center for Career and Professional Development

UMW announces the fulfillment of one of its key strategic goals with the selection of the first executive director for its Center for Career and Professional Development, Paul Binkley. Mr. Binkley has more than 20 years experience in the fields of career services, student affairs, international development and higher education management.

New date, art reception to benefit Tree Fredericksburg

All are invited to attend an art reception for artist Scott DeHaven at the Red Dragon Brewery on Wednesday, July 10 from 6 to 9 p.m. Red Dragon Brewery is located at 1419 Princess Anne St. All proceeds from the sales will be donated to support the efforts of Tree Fredericksburg. The event is free and open to the public.
