Kelly Hunt plans to open a quick-service concept called MD Eats this summer after renovating the space at 701 Lafayette Blvd. The "upscale fast-food joint" will feature burgers, fried fish and fried chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, waffle-fry nachos and gourmet milk shakes.
Last year's wildly successful and popular event, SlideFXBG, will be back in town on August 31st -- the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. This year's event will be held on William Street, with the start of the slide being set up a few feet below College Avenue and ending at Sunken Road.

City, region planning competitive tax rates to lure data centers
The City of Fredericksburg and the remainder of the region are planning to create a new tax classification specifically for data centers at the same personal property tax rate and depreciation schedule offered in Prince William County.

Fredericksburg's EDA on Monday approved a $10,000 sponsorship for the Fredericksburg Area Museum's annual Sounds of Summer concert series in Market Square. The series will run Friday evenings between June 7 and Sept. 27.
Fredericksburg's EDA also approved a $3,000 sponsorship toward UMW Athletics' sixth-annual dinner and auction, which will be held May 18 in Chandler Ballroom on campus. UMW Athletics was instrumental in helping the City and EDA pull off last year's SlideFXBG event.
