Fredericksburg Farmers Market opening Saturday

It's springtime, and what is more seasonal than the idea of fresh local produce in our downtown open-air market? Starting on Saturday, you can find the Farmers Market open in Hurkamp Park. This year's market features 29 vendors selling a wide variety of fresh items from  7 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday.

March was a good one for City housing market

Walls coming down at Liberty Place

The exterior walls are being removed at the future site of the Liberty Place development in downtown Fredericksburg -- representing welcome progress for everyone who has been working on the project for five-plus years.

SlideFXBG returning in August

Last year's wildly successful and popular event, SlideFXBG, will be back in town on August 31st -- the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. This year's event will be held on William Street, with the start of the slide being set up a few feet below College Avenue and ending at Sunken Road.

Governor announces Opportunity Zone initiative

Gov. Ralph Northam announced a new initiative last week that will bolster the goal of ensuring that every region, community, and household can participate and share in Virginia's economic progress through the federal Opportunity Zones program. About half of Fredericksburg has been designated for the program.

Leases signed for Fredericksburg space

The following leases were signed in March for commercial space in Fredericksburg, according to Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer:
  • Backdoor Gallery renewed its lease of 5,500 square feet at 922 Caroline St.
  • Once Upon A Child renewed its lease and relocated to 5,000 square feet within Central Park Marketplace at 3120-3140 Cowan Blvd.
  • Cell Phone Repair leased 1,273 square feet in Central Park Marketplace at 3120-3140 Cowan Blvd.
  • Ava Laurenne Bride leased the main floor and balcony at 1001 Princess Anne St.

Barnes & Noble has been awarded a contract to take over operation of the University of Mary Washington's bookstore.  

Naming contest still ongoing

People have until May 1 to suggest names for the Potomac Nationals when they relocate to Fredericksburg next year. The team has already received nearly 500 submissions.
City planning for water and sewer upgrades

The City is working with Spotsylvania to plan for the future on water and sewer needs.
