From Downtown Entrepreneur to Economic Leader: David Fraser Joins the EDA Board

At its meeting on Tuesday, June 23, Fredericksburg City Council appointed David Fraser, owner and founder of Fraser Wood Elements, to the Fredericksburg Economic Development Authority (EDA) Board.

Fraser is a longtime downtown business owner and entrepreneur who has been investing in Fredericksburg’s economy since opening Fraser Wood Elements in 2014. Located in historic downtown Fredericksburg, the showroom has become known for its handcrafted, heirloom-quality furniture and custom wood pieces that blend timeless craftsmanship with modern design. The business specializes in American-made furniture, live-edge tables, fireplace mantels, reclaimed wood products, and thoughtfully curated home furnishings.

Inspired by his experience working with reclaimed and new flooring products, Fraser launched the business after relocating to Fredericksburg with his wife, a Fredericksburg native. Over the past decade, he has grown Fraser Wood Elements into a regional destination serving both residential and commercial clients, with his work featured in numerous local businesses and gathering spaces throughout the community.

Beyond his business accomplishments, Fraser is a dedicated advocate for community engagement and sustainability. He actively supports local initiatives, partners with nonprofit organizations, and contributes handcrafted pieces to charitable fundraisers. Through Fraser Wood Elements, he also promotes environmental stewardship by emphasizing sustainable, long-lasting products and participating in tree-planting initiatives. As shown in the photo, Fraser is also a passionate advocate for animal welfare and proudly supports the Old Dominion Humane Society, further reflecting his commitment to giving back to the Fredericksburg community.

As an EDA board member, Fraser brings a unique perspective as a small business owner, maker, and downtown stakeholder. His firsthand experience in entrepreneurship, placemaking, and community investment will help guide the Authority’s efforts to foster economic growth and support Fredericksburg’s thriving business community.
