Ceremony celebrates work at train station
Officials with the City of Fredericksburg, the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) and more gathered Tuesday morning to celebrate recent improvements to Fredericksburg’s train station.
Nearly $15 million of work was done on the station over the past almost two years. The project included rehabilitating and extending the platform, adding an access stairway, and fixing bridges over several downtown streets. There were also aesthetic improvements including new paint, signs and lighting.
Officials at the Tuesday ceremony, which occurred near the train platform, said plans are in the works in the years to come for additional passenger-rail service to and from Fredericksburg on both Amtrak and the VRE.
