Council Celebrates C.T.E. Collaboration of GCC and Oberle Academy
Tuesday night, the City Council’s Work Session began with a visit to Oberle Academy. The Academy serves special need students from the region and works with 22 area businesses for job placement. The Academy boasts a 98% graduation rate and believes in the power and potential of all students.
Germanna Community College has recently combined forces for several career and technical education opportunity with Oberle. Welding classes and certifications are among the offerings. Oberle offers other CTE Courses including Cosmetology, Drones, Plumbing, Small Engine Repair, Culinary Arts, Carpentry, HVAC, Electrical and others.
Oberle hosted the tour and those present, including Dr. Marci Catlett, Superintendent of Fredericksburg City Public Schools, Oberle Academy Board Members, Germanna’s Dean of Career and Technical Education – Tina Lance, as well as Oberle Academy and City Economic Development staff.
This tour reinforces the ongoing work to live into the desired future state of City Council’s Priority #18 – Work with School Board and Germanna Community College to increase CTE opportunities.
