Josh Summits pictured with man at West Virginia University football gameAs we close summer with the Labor Day weekend full of gatherings with family, friends, and maybe a trip to your Alma Mater the transition from summer to fall is a natural time for change and growth. This annual spectacle reminds us of the inherent natural beauty in change and impermanence. It’s a visual metaphor for the transitions in our own personal and professional lives. It’s a period of letting go of old habits, unproductive routines, and things that no longer serve us. In doing so, we make space for renewal and growth, readying ourselves for the exciting opportunities and optimism that the new season brings.

Continued professional as well as personal growth requires the full embrace of the “learning curve”. From simply familiarizing yourself with new computer systems, daily operations, all the new names and faces around the office, and ultimately understanding the nuances of your role, there’s a lot to absorb. Embracing this learning curve is not just about surviving the challenge; it’s about transforming it into opportunities for profound personal and professional development and growth.

In an ever-changing digital world where we can access a plethora of information with just a few clicks, it’s easy to forget that true growth thrives on the learning curve. So what does that learning curve look like for me? It’s forming a strong(er) foundation built on the gradual and continued process of acquiring hands-on knowledge through; Continued Engagement with Community Stakeholders, Building New and Expanding Existing Relationships, Assessment Current Initiatives and Programs, Review and Development of a Strategic Plan, Aligning Expectations with Realities, and Setting Future Economic Development and Tourism Goals for the City of Fredericksburg.
