FXBG Restaurant Week sampled: One local’s journey
Fredericksburg’s Summer 2022 Restaurant Week is in full swing and will go through Sunday, August 7th. Eat at five participating restaurants downtown for a chance to win $250 in downtown restaurant gift cards. I decided to participate and challenge myself with a budget of $75. Here’s how it went:
The first place I went to was Mellow Mushroom, which has become a favorite pizza place in the area for many since they opened. They have delicious food, and a fun dining experience with bright-colored decorations throughout the restaurant. I ordered a stuffed Veggie Calzone, which was about $18 with tip.
The second place I visited was Harry’s Alehouse, which is just a few doors down from Mellow Mushroom. The restaurant just opened up, and it was my first time eating there. They had a wide variety of food options, and the Margherita Flatbread I tried was amazing. I paid about $15.
My third stop was The Pig Pit, which I also ate at for the first time. I loved the fun atmosphere of the restaurant. This is a meat-lover’s paradise, since most of their food is piled with meat, including the stuffed potato I ordered. Their milkshakes are a great addition to your meal among their other desserts and drinks. I paid about $22.
The fourth place I ate at was Maggie’s Subs, a quick in-and-out sub shop. You can grab a quality sub, with chips, drinks and snacks available on the side. They even make fresh draft sodas, including root beer, butter beer and cream soda. I tried the butter beer and Number 15 sub (Basil, Tomato, Mozzarella and Balsamic Vinegar), which I’ll have to buy again. I paid about $18.
I finished off my passport with a stamp from Abner B’s Ice Cream, the perfect place to cool down on a hot summer afternoon. They have banana splits, a variety of house-made ice creams, slushees, milkshakes and more. I tried the fresh Tropical Summer Sorbet on a pineapple slushee, which was about $6.
The total spent was around $80, just a few dollars off my goal. It’s okay though, because the food was really good, and worth all the time I spent eating with family and friends. As mentioned, Restaurant Week ends on August 7th, so you still have time to join in and try some items off the Restaurant Week menus, which can be found here along with the participating businesses. This is the perfect chance to find your new favorite food. Have fun eating and remember to check FXBG.com for more fun activities going on in Fredericksburg.
