FredNats honor Jackie Robinson, Art Silber
The Fredericksburg Nationals on Tuesday celebrate the legacy of Jackie Robinson, the boyhood hero of the team’s principal owner.
Tuesday night’s event at the Fredericksburg ballpark coincided with team owner Art Silber’s 80th birthday. Silber grew up watching Robinson in Brooklyn and idolized the pioneering player.
The recipients of Jackie Robinson Writing Contest Scholarships from the FredNats and Germanna Community College were unveiled at last night’s “Jackie Robinson Legacy Night,” which also featured a free showing of the movie “42.” The team also unveiled the facility’s official address — 42 Jackie Robinson Way.
The event was properly spaced to ensure social distancing. The FredNats plan to host more movie nights in the near future. Below is a video address by Fredericksburg Mayor Mary Katherine Greenlaw that was played at the event.
