Local Babe Ruth World Series starts Thursday

Some of the best 14-year-old baseball players in the world will be in the Fredericksburg area over the next couple of weeks for the Babe Ruth World Series.

The 14-year-old division of the Babe Ruth World Series will be in Fredericksburg and Stafford County starting Thursday and running through August 13. Stafford Baseball League is putting on the event, which will be held at Chichester Park in Stafford (early rounds) and the Virginia Credit Union Stadium in Fredericksburg (later rounds). There will be 14 teams, including ones from Aruba, Australia and Mexico.

Here is the schedule:

Aug. 3 – Team Check-in Day

Aug. 4 – Opening Ceremony

Aug. 5 – Pool Play Begins

Aug. 10 – Elimination Games Begin

Aug. 12 – Championship Games & Awards

Aug. 13 – Teams Depart
