Marceline Catlett Named Virginia Region III Superintendent of the Year
A strong public school system is one of the most important drivers of community quality of life and a key factor for families and businesses considering Fredericksburg.
The Virginia Association of School Superintendents (VASS) has named Dr. Marceline “Marci” Catlett, Superintendent of Fredericksburg City Public Schools, the 2027 Region III Superintendent of the Year.
Dr. Catlett has led Fredericksburg City Public Schools since 2019 and has devoted more than four decades to the division. Her leadership has focused on academic excellence, student well-being, and strong community partnerships all essential components of a thriving city.
Under her tenure, FCPS has:
- Expanded Career & Technical Education (CTE) opportunities to better align students with workforce pathways
- Strengthened school safety through innovative measures, including early adoption of cellphone-free learning environments and enhanced security technologies
- Invested in student mental health and wellness
- Advanced academic achievement through programs such as the James Farmer Scholars initiative
- Increased transparency and family engagement through enhanced communications and community outreach

As Region III Superintendent of the Year, Dr. Catlett will now compete for the 2027 Virginia Superintendent of the Year Award, to be announced at the statewide VASS Conference this spring.
