University of Mary Washington Launches New MSN Program to Strengthen Regional Healthcare Workforce

University of Mary Washington logo.Nurses across Northern Virginia who are ready to take their expertise to the next level will soon have access to a new graduate pathway designed with workforce needs in mind.

The University of Mary Washington (UMW) is now accepting applications for its new Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program, with the first cohort beginning in Fall 2026. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis through June 1, 2026, creating expanded opportunities for working professionals to advance their careers without leaving the region.

Building the Talent Pipeline in Healthcare

Designed specifically for working registered nurses throughout Virginia and particularly in the Fredericksburg region UMW’s MSN program prepares healthcare professionals for advanced roles in:

  • Clinical Leadership

This program represents a significant investment in our regional workforce pipeline, equipping experienced nurses with the credentials and skills needed to fill high-demand healthcare positions locally.

Flexible, Workforce-Focused Design

To meet the needs of busy professionals, coursework will be delivered fully online, providing flexibility while maintaining academic rigor. Students will also participate in in-person simulation and clinical practicum experiences developed in partnership with regional healthcare organizations ensuring hands-on training aligned with real-world workforce demands.
