Washington Heritage Museums Welcomes New Executive Director
Washington Heritage Museums (WHM) is entering an exciting new chapter with the appointment of Michelle Arcari Rose as its next Executive Director, following the retirement of longtime leader Anne Darron. Rose brings extensive experience in historic preservation, nonprofit leadership, and strong ties to the Fredericksburg community.
Previously serving as associate general counsel and director of contracts for the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Rose has led complex negotiations, grant oversight, and compliance efforts at the national level. She also teaches historic preservation law at the University of Mary Washington and has played a key role in preserving Historic Pleasant Grove Church & Museum in McLean, Virginia.
Rose was selected after a comprehensive search process and will begin her role in late March, working alongside Darron through May to ensure a smooth transition. Her leadership comes at a pivotal time as WHM continues to expand its impact and prepare for the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Darron leaves behind a remarkable legacy, having significantly grown WHM’s programming, membership, and stewardship of its historic sites—including the addition of the Mary Washington Monument and Caretaker’s Lodge.
With Rose at the helm, WHM is well-positioned to continue preserving and sharing Fredericksburg’s rich history for generations to come.
