New theatre building planned at UMW
The University of Mary Washington is preparing to construct a new home for its fine and performing arts programs at the corner of William Street and Sunken Road near downtown Fredericksburg.
The project’s $117 million construction budget comes from the 2022-23 state budget. The project will also include renovations to duPont, Pollard and Melchers halls.
Commonwealth Architects and HGA Architects & Engineers were contracted to develop the architectural plans for the new theatre building and arts and music renovations. The new structure and accompanying parking will replace the aging Marshall and Russell halls, which will be demolished as part of the construction.
A public preview of the design will be presented at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, via Zoom. View the webinar at https://umw-sso.zoom.us/j/81779295932.
